DESIGN PRINCIPLES OF PHOTOGRAPHY
Design principles are the building blocks to creating a work of art and relate to how an artist implements the design elements (Lovett, 1999). Design principles are fundamental ideas that can be applied to painting, drawing, and other forms of design. On this site, the design principles are geared towards digital photography. On the following subpages you will find the definitions, descriptions, and examples of the nine design principles of photography including focal point/emphasis, rhythm, balance, movement, contrast, repetition, alignment, proximity, and unity.
